About Charred
Locally owned and operated on Hull Street Road in Midlothian. Here is the room, the story behind the name, and the owner behind it.
From the dining room wall
The word on the wall
There is a sign on the dining room wall that says what the name means. It is the closest thing the restaurant has to a statement about itself, so here it is, word for word.
charred /CHärd/ adj.
Primal art of using wood fire to produce intense flavor with a complex smoky edge.
syn. blackened; wood fired; craft inspired

The room and the welcome
Charred is a scratch kitchen, full bar, and neighborhood dining room where the pass stays open to the room and the team is part of the experience.
Charred Swift Creek is locally owned and operated. That line is printed on the decals on the front door. Out front there is a covered patio, and inside, a private dining room.

Owner and hands-on operator
Meet Mikey Swafford
Success is earned.
Mikey Swafford is the owner and hands-on operator behind Charred Swift Creek and Social 52. He took over operations of both restaurants in 2024. His approach starts with a simple belief: success is earned. Show up, put in the work, hold yourself to a higher standard, and never stop looking for ways to improve. That mentality shapes both restaurants and their teams, with a focus on strong leadership, consistency, and building something bigger than simply a place to eat.
His vision is to create restaurants where the community comes together: places to bring the family, meet friends, celebrate milestones, watch a game, or simply grab dinner on a Tuesday night. Great food and genuine hospitality should be affordable, approachable, and available to everyone. Mikey remains heavily involved in daily operations and believes there is always another level to reach. The mission stays simple: take care of the team, take care of the guests, support the community, and build restaurants people are proud to call their neighborhood spot.
A look inside
The best view of Charred is the one with the team working and the room full.
